Reading Report Information and Explanation
READING REPORT DUE DATES FOR FIRST QUARTER ARE OCTOBER 3RD AND OCTOBER 30TH.
In English 8 we will be doing Reading Reports rather than the traditional book report. There are six different reading reports to complete, and students cannot repeat any of the six until all have been completed. The six different genres (types) are autobiographical, biographical, essay, fiction, nonfiction (other than autobiography and biography), and poetry. There is a different form for each genre. During the first two weeks of school, we will go over, in great detail, how to do these forms correctly, and the students will have the opportunity to get exact examples of how these should be completed. It is important that they understand how to do these correctly because reading reports are graded only as Acceptable or Unacceptable. Points are assigned at the end of the quarter for the number of acceptable reports turned in that quarter. With the exception of first quarter, three reports are due to earn 50 points, two reports earn 40 points, and one earns 30 points. (First quarter there will only be two required because of the time spent learning the process.)
Reading reports are considered by me to be a serious writing assignment. Therefore, before the student will be given the form for the final draft, I must check a rough draft of his/her work. This means that the students must plan ahead. I will not check rough drafts on the day the final drafts are due. I will not use teaching time to check rough drafts. I will check them before or after school, during reading time at the beginning of class, or during other free time.
The due dates for reading reports will be posted on the board at the beginning of each quarter, schoolview, and the web page. The reports can be turned in any time before the due dates, but they CANNOT be turned in after the due date unless the student was absent. The correct examples done in class will be posted on the web page under a separate entry.
If you have any questions, your child should be able to answer them. If he/she cannot, please call me at 629-4148 or email me at [email protected].
